Founded in 1982 by eleven charter member congregations, H.E.L.P. has grown to include sixty plus congregations in the City of Hampton and Newport News.
H.E.L.P. is a faith-based organization supported by member congregations, schools, businesses, civic clubs and organizations in conjunction with the area cities. Together it has made great strides in providing emergency shelter, transitional housing, a winter shelter program, food, financial assistance to those in need, life skill training and job placement for the homeless, and free healthcare to those without medical coverage.
Over the years, H.E.L.P. has grown dramatically both in the number of volunteers and people it serves in various ministries. Together we have made a difference in literally thousands of lives. Thus we have made our community a better place for all citizens.

Call in Referral. A service offered by the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. United Way First Call acts as a link between what you may need and what is available in the community. United Way also has information about support groups, community and agency services and general information to answer your questions. This service is for Peninsula residents (Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and York County).

Volunteers are the backbone of the H.E.L.P. Individuals are needed in all areas to serve the uninsured and medically under served on the Peninsula. Many volunteers are needed in "behind the scenes" jobs, as well as working with clinic patients. We utilize volunteer workers with medical as well as non-medical skills. To volunteer your time and talent, download and fill out our Volunteer Application and/or call at 850-8956.
Donations may be brought to the H.E.L.P. office Fridays between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Medical & Dental Eligibility Screening
If you have no medical insurance, please call us at (757) 723-0648 to make an appointment for eligibility screening. The following lists our eligibility requirements. You may also download a copy of our Eligibility Requirements Checklist or pick-up a list at our office, 317 Rip Rap Road. (Where is our office?)
New patients may return these documents (all of the documents) to the main office Monday and Tuesday between 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Documents will not be accepted after 1:00 p.m. documents will not be accepted on Wednesday, Thursday or Fridays. Re-screening appointments are made on each Thursday of the month and the re-screening fee is to be paid at the time of the appointment.
There is a $ 20.00 administrative fee for each dental visit. This fee must be pre-paid.
